TEHRAN – The shares of seven modern power plants, including Shazand Thermoelectric Power Plant of Arak, the capital of Markazi Province, will be offered at Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE) in the near future, the plant managing director said Wednesday.

Due to the sophisticated technology and its environmentally-friendly systems, Shazand plant is among the nation’s leading power stations, Ali Farahvar added.

Commenting on the environmental issues of the power plant, he stated, “Given the prevailing winds blowing in the region, the 210-meter-high smokestack of the plant prevents environmental pollutions. “In addition, in line with our environment conservation and pollution prevention policies, we have embarked on a 30-hectare afforestation program near the power plant.”

He added, “We hope to increase the green area to 80 hectares, by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2007).
